Design 111 Project Model

The joint. This is my favourite design project from last trimester because it gave me a chance to be really creative, and design something different. The project involved taking a joint of the body and abstracting its movements to create a diagram that traced these movements. I was given the knee, and from this I developed quite an unusual diagram, based on the photos I used for inspiration. Making a model of this was exciting, I used plaster, metal and wood, and I had fun making it! To reinforce the idea of the diagram, I drew this on to the surface of the plaster. I think that this model and drawing set was successful as there was a strong connection between the two.

hi, i really like the way that the moving parts scored the plaster showing the pathway of the movement and also the high level of craft in the model. the photo also helps to show the most important parts of the model, good job.

Definatly agree with Sam, those calculated abrasions to the plaster thoroughly emphasise the Idea behind it.

Also great to see the themes from such a brilliant model carried through into the website itself.

fantastic level of craft in this, and very pleasing composition

Wow, that model looks awesome, how long did that take you to reach such a high level of craft?

hey matt, I probably spent more time on the model than the drawing for this project. The hardest thing was getting the plaster to look nice and smooth. It probably took about a week, because the plaster had to try.
